Honoring Excellence In Facility Management

Since 1983, IFMA’s Awards of Excellence celebrates the outstanding achievements across the global facility management community. These awards recognize individuals, IFMA’s chapters, councils and communities and partners whose work powers the profession.

About the Awards

Awards are presented each year at World Workplace. Recipients are selected based on measurable impact, leadership and contributions to the global FM community.

Who can nominate?

All categories require the nominator to be an IFMA member in good standing. Volunteer leaders and administrators may submit nominations on behalf of their networking groups. Some categories do not allow self-nominations.

Additional requirements are listed below. All applications and nominations are due 10 July.

Judging process

Judging panels include IFMA past winners, component leaders, IFMA Fellows and staff. Volunteers are assigned based on expertise and category alignment. Learn more about the judging process.

Individual Awards

These awards recognize leadership, service, education, and meaningful individual contributions to the facility management profession.

Component Volunteer of the Year

Honors an outstanding IFMA volunteer whose dedication and leadership have significantly strengthened a chapter, council, or community over the past 24 months.


Key Details

  • Recognizes commitment to advancing mission, collaboration, and engagement
  • Nominees must be IFMA members in good standing
  • Self-nominations are not permitted
  • Selected by a panel of former Component Presidents
  • All nomination communications are directed to the nominator
Associate Member Award

Recognizes Associate member companies or representatives for voluntary contributions that support IFMA at local, regional, national, or international levels.

Key Details

  • Up to two awards may be presented:
    • One international Associate member company or representative
    • One chapter- or council-affiliated company or representative
  • Submittals cover activities from May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
  • Nominator must be an IFMA member
  • All communications regarding this entry are directed to the nominator
Distinguished Member Award

IFMA’s second-highest individual honor, recognizing sustained leadership and service that advances IFMA and the facility management profession at the international level.

Key Details

  • Open to Professional or Associate members
  • Recognizes long-term leadership, ethics, and professional excellence
  • Self-nominations are not permitted
  • Judged by IFMA Fellows and the immediate past chair

Educator Member Award

Honors excellence in facility management education through curriculum development, teaching, mentoring, publishing, and student engagement.


Key Details

  • Recognizes contributions to FM education at colleges, universities, or institutes
  • Includes writing, presentations, mentoring, and student chapter involvement
  • Submittals cover activities from May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
  • Nominees must be IFMA members
Emerging Professional Award

Recognizes early-career FM professionals who demonstrate leadership, initiative, and measurable contributions to IFMA and their organizations.

Key Details

  • Open to Professional or Associate members early in their careers
  • Recognizes career advancement through work projects or internships
  • Active engagement with IFMA and peer networking required
  • Judged by one IFMA staff member and four IFMA past winners
Distinguished Author Awards

These awards recognize published work that advances knowledge, education, and professional practice in facility management.

Honors impactful facility management–related articles or research papers that contribute to industry knowledge and best practices.

Distinguished Author Award: Book

Recognizes books that address current or emerging topics relevant to facility management professionals.

Distinguished Author Award: Instructional Materials / Web-Based / Social Media

Honors instructional, digital, or social media content that supports learning and professional development in facility management.

  • Eligible works published in 2024, 2025, or 2026
  • Content must support FM education or professional practice
Networking Group Awards

These awards honor IFMA chapters, councils, and communities for excellence in communication, engagement, education, and leadership.

Recognizes chapters that consistently deliver high-quality professional development programming and promote IFMA credentials.

Chapter Government Affairs Award

Honors chapters that advance recognition of the FM profession through sustained engagement with government entities.

  • Includes local, regional, or national government involvement
  • Team awards judged in the Large Chapter category when applicable
  • Submittals cover activities from May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
Chapter of the Year

Recognizes chapters that demonstrate excellence in membership engagement, governance, communications, and programming.

  • Two awards presented:
  • Chapters with more than 200 members
  • Chapters with 200 or fewer members
  • Evaluated on fiscal responsibility, strategy, innovation, and participation
  • Submittals cover activities from May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
Student Chapter of the Year

Honors student chapters that demonstrate commitment to developing future FM professionals.


Key Details

  • Includes education, internships, and innovative outreach
  • May include community engagement and facility projects
  • Judged by IFMA staff and champions
Chapter Web Communication Award

Recognizes chapters that deliver effective, high-quality digital communication to members.

Council or Community Award for Excellence in Communications

Honors councils or communities that maintain consistent, effective communication with members.

  • Evaluates energy efficiency, innovation, audits, reporting, and long-term solutions
  • Considers stakeholder engagement and overall operational performance

Facility Management Innovation Award

Recognizes innovative, cost-efficient, and replicable projects that advance facility management beyond standard practices and help lead the profession into the future.

  • Nominee must be an IFMA member and part of the project team
  • Collaboration between FM professionals and service providers is encouraged
  • Award includes a two-phase submission process
  • Finalists are expected to present an educational session at World Workplace

Phase 1: Executive Summary

  • Project completed within 12 months prior to April 2026
  • Submissions close 8 May, 2026

Phase 2: In-Depth Proposal

  • Open only to Phase 1 finalists
  • Final submissions due 10 July, 2026
