Lena Thompson, FMP, SFP, is an IFMA Instructor and IFMA Fellow. She serves as the Director of Building Operations and Office of Facilities Management for the American Psychological Association. Lena is the APA’s principal owner’s representative for all matters relating to the lease management, building operations, business center, construction/renovation, and maintenance projects for both APA properties. As a strategic, critical thinker that leads with passion for maintaining the built environment, she spearheaded the association’s LEED Platinum Existing Building status of both of its properties in Washington, D.C. Lena is a co-developer of one of DC’s premium sustainable rooftop conference centers. Over her facilities management career, Lena worked extensively in the public and nonprofit sectors, with an emphasis on workplace strategy, energy conservation, construction management, workplace safety, and change management. Lena has consistently focused on improving the employee work environment, which has led to the implementation of many healthy workplace initiatives and sustainable programs. As an industry leader with 25+ years of experience, Lena has a proven track record in all aspects of facilities management, including property management, lease negotiations, formulating policies, operations, and project management.

In conjunction with her soaring career path, Lena is the author of "Partnering for Excellence. She is also a qualified instructor for IFMA’s Sustainability Facility Professional® (SFP®) and Facility Management Professional™ (FMP®) programs. She also served on the advisory board at Prince George’s County Community College and has inserted herself as staple in the PGCC Continuing Education Department where she serves as an Adjunct Professor. Over the past several years and through exceptional drive she has mastered both her craft and the ability to teach it, reaching hundreds of colleagues and students internationally through her IFMA affiliation. She has actively participated in the Washington, DC chapter of IFMA while leveraging other component memberships at national and international IFMA events. Her ability to inspire attendees to strive for leadership positions and continuing education is impactful and sought after by key facilities management influencers in our community. Lena has spoken at numerous events, panels and sessions as varied as podcasts to Facility Fusion to presentations at World Workplace.
