HCC/ASHE Benchmarks Survey 2009

The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) are jointly conducting a benchmarking survey devoted solely to health care facility operations and maintenance issues The goal of this project is to collect a sufficient amount of data and develop a benchmarking tool that allows facility managers to compare their facilities operational performance to that of other similar health care organizations and relate it to common business financial terms. Moreover, the benchmarking results can be used to continually improve operational efficiency within health care facilities.

You are invited to play a significant role in this unique study by completing the survey.  In return for your time and effort, you will receive an electronic copy of the report (free of charge) when it is released.

Your information will not be shared. Underwriting sponsors will not have access to any of the raw data collected in this study and no participant information or identities will be shared outside of the IFMA and ASHE research departments.

Recognizing health care organizations require a constant stream of current information, ASHE and IFMA are constructing this benchmarking tool to assist facility managers in determining the true “value” of the facilities operations in relation to the organization’s profit margin. This survey will help facility managers demonstrate their department’s significance to the bottom line and their net worth as a business partner in health care.

This questionnaire covers the major areas that comprise a facility’s cost of operations: environmental services, waste, utilities, and operations.  Each area contains questions pertaining to annual cost and practices, as well as in-depth questions on maintenance staffing.  Additionally, we are collecting financial indicators such as total adjusted patient days and total adjusted discharges.

A high level of participation is critical to producing a report with valuable information. Please pass this survey along to another colleague if you feel you are not the appropriate person to respond to these questions.

The report will also be available for purchase at a later date to those who have not participated in the submission of benchmark information.  Please take this opportunity to review the survey and answer as many questions as you can. The survey is divided into several modules. You may not be able to answer every question, but every piece of information you and others in your organization provide will help us to provide you with an incredible resource.
