SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN CHAPTER OF IFMA GOES GREEN IN ANN ARBOR
BRIGHTON, MI – (Sept. 3, 2008) Do you ever wonder what really constitutes a “green building”? What does sustainable architecture do for the environment? Building and facility managers will have an opportunity to learn this and more as they visit Ann Arbor’s first building to be registered with the United States Green Building Council.
The public is invited to join the members of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the International Facility Management Association on Thursday, Sept. 18, for a presentation and tour of the Ann Arbor architectural and design firm A3C. Dinner and the presentation are at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum from 4 to 6 p.m. with a tour of the A3C offices from 6-7 p.m. across the street at 210 East Huron Street. Tickets are $25 for members and $35 for non-members and may be purchased at the event or by phone at 810-229-8973.
Jason Wells, President of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of IFMA said, “We are delighted to be part of the movement to design, build and operate more sustainable offices. This tour will allow us to share what we have learned with the community at large.”
The A3C offices have become an educational tool for the community as well as for A3C clients regarding the benefits of sustainable design. It is the first downtown Ann Arbor building with a green and growing roof and the first to use geothermal energy systems. In addition, the sustainable design has reduced CO² levels to below 50 percent, reduced storm water run off by 50 percent, improved indoor air quality, increased daylight and lighting controls and used sustainable materials and resources.
IFMA is an international, not-for-profit association dedicated to promoting excellence in facility management. Incorporated in 1980, IFMA provides educational programs which assist in developing strategies for managing human, facility and real estate resources. IFMA also awards a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) designation to experienced facility managers who pass a rigorous exam. The Southeastern Michigan Chapter, with more than 250 members, is the second oldest chapter of IFMA. For more information about IFMA Southeastern Michigan, visit www.ifmasemichigan.org.
