IFMA’s Steve Jones elected as chair of the International Credentials Commission

Dec. 16, 2015

The International Credentials Commission (ICC), an independent commission of IFMA, has elected Steve Jones, CFM to chair. Jones, who lives and works in Australia, was elected by ICC commissioners to a one-year term, after which he will be eligible for re-election. The ICC is an independent body created by the IFMA bylaws and is responsible for all management of IFMA’s world class credential programs that include the Certified Facility Manager® (CFM®), the Facility Management Professional™ (FMP®) and the Sustainability Facility Professional® (SFP®).

Jones is a member of the Australian Sports Commission Executive and is the General Manager responsible for all of the enabling services for the ASC. His career of over 40 years has included military service, working as a government client and delivering services as a service provider. As such he has managed FM teams that operated Australian Embassies in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas; and during Army service was based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He has a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and a Diploma with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Jones has been a member of FMA Australia since 1997 and has had active involvement in leadership positions within FMA as a Branch Chair for three years which was followed by three two year terms on the FMA Board. He was awarded FMA Australia Member of the Year in 2010.

In 2009 Jones participated in the IFMA Global Job Task Analysis as a member of the Task Force which created the survey. This led to his involvement as a member of the International Credentials Committee and more latterly as a member of the ICC.

The ICC oversees IFMA’s credential programs that offer something for everyone in facilities. The gold-standard CFM allows a facility professional to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and skill. The must-have FMP is suited for FM professionals seeking to increase their aptitude and is being increasingly used to train entire FM departments and supporting staff. The SFP offers specific skills for implementing sustainable practices and optimizing the management of environmentally-responsible facilities.

IFMA’s world-class facility management credential program has earned accreditation and seven commendations from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ANSI, which oversees thousands of standards and guidelines that directly impact businesses in a range of sectors, accredited IFMA for the Facility Management Professional (FMP®) and Sustainability Facility Professional® (SFP®). Both the FMP and SFP programs were described as “world-class, gold-standard models of learning and development.”
