    The IFMA Environmental Stewardship, Utilities and Stewardship Strategic Advisory Group (ESUS) has released the latest guide in the widely acclaimed series on sustainability for facility managers, “Sustainability How-To Guide: Carbon Footprint.” The guide, available for free download from IFMA’s Knowledge Library, examines carbon footprinting from the perspective of a facility management (FM) professional, providing the tools needed to understand the process, analyze the results, and plan for the future.

    IFMA joins International Ethics Standards Coalition

    IFMA has joined a new international coalition that will develop the first set of globally recognized ethics standards for real estate and related professional organizations. The International Ethics Standards (IES) Coalition currently consists of around 90 member organizations with professionals working in a diverse range of countries.

    IFMA announces 2016-17 executive committee and board of directors

    IFMA is pleased to introduce its 2016-17 board of directors and member-elected executive committee members. The beginning of IFMA’s 2016-17 fiscal year (July 1) marks the first day as chair for Maureen Ehrenberg, FRICS, CRE, who was elected by IFMA membership along with first vice chair William M. O’Neill, CFM, and second vice chair, Graham John Tier, CFM, FMP, MRICS. IFMA also welcomes six new board members with a wide variety of international expertise and experience.

    US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention taps IFMA to help reduce Legionella growth and spread in buildings

    The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has tapped IFMA to help reduce the incidence of Legionella that led to the building-associated Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks CDC investigated from 2000 through 2014. This request underscores the critical role facility management plays in the built environment, with the health and safety of building occupants being a top priority for IFMA’s 24,000 facility management (FM) professionals.

    “As the largest property owner in the world, the U.S. government can save billions by reducing waste across its civilian real estate portfolio. On behalf of the International Facility Management Association, I’d like to congratulate Chairman Barletta, Congressman Denham and ranking member Carson for their hard work on this important issue. House passage of H.R. 4465 is a major step forward in improving operations and maintenance of federal buildings and reducing the overall cost of the federal building portfolio. We encourage the Senate to continue its work on companion legislation that not only reduces the overall size of the portfolio, but also creates an incentive for agencies to dispose of excess property through retained savings for training and deferred maintenance.”
