I am a member of my local
IFMA chapter, but I am not able to attend IFMA conferences
to take courses. Do you have any information on other
opportunities to take courses?
Local chapters can offer approved courses
for the FMP. Please contact your local chapter to discuss
your courses of interest and their upcoming schedule.
Where can I find the
application for the FMP?
Applications for the FMP can be found
online. For more information or to receive an application
by mail, please visit our guestbook or call 713-623-4362.
How
long do I have to complete the FMP process once I begin?
Once you complete your initial application
for becoming an FMP, you must finish the required coursework
within three years. If you do not complete the coursework
within that timeframe, you will be required to repeat
the application process.
What does one credit
equal?
IFMA recognizes one credit as 15 contact
hours of instruction. Courses submitted to IFMA for
credit will be reviewed based on this criteria. This
one credit can be split between two topics under one
area. For example, under the Managing the Facility area
you could take 7.5 hours of Real Estate and 7.5 hours
of Finance. The 15 hours can only be split in half for
IFMA’s online courses and you must show a completed
assessment for each course that you take.
Can I take any seminar
at my chapter/council meeting and apply it as credit
toward the FMP?
Unfortunately, no. The FMP requires that
you complete a course that has been structured to test
what you have learned. Since most seminars are informational
only and do not provide an assessment or test at the
end, they will not qualify for credit towards the FMP.
Do I have to provide
IFMA with an official transcript of courses that I want
to submit for credit?
No, a copy of your official transcript
will be sufficient. Please be sure to provide a short
syllabus or course description for each course that
you are submitting for credit.
