Process Overview

The initial “call for volunteers” is issued on ifma.org and includes the application form and supplemental information.

  1. Application: Interested volunteers are asked to submit a completed application, professional reference list and current resume.
  2. Approval: IFMA will also consider the following competency and demographic factors:
    • Global representation – In order to accurately represent current membership demographics, it is recommended that 25 percent of chosen SMEs are from outside of the United States.
    • Competencies of expertise – There should be a balance of SMEs for each competency, with the exception of those competencies anticipated to be content rich.
    • A balance of associate vs. professional members – The recommended percentage is 2:1.
    • Licenses, certificates, or other FM related credentials
    • Earned degrees – Academic, trade and technical degrees will be considered.
    • Short-term training – Specialized non-degree training, workshops or seminars relating to FM.
    • Prior experiences – Supervisor, consultant, instructor or trainer
      • Current position, grade or rank in the organization
      • Various on-the-job special appointments or projects
