TVS Architects Design Landmark Tower in Dubai's New Central Business District

Tower the beacon of Business Bay, a city within the city

TVS & Associates announced that Dubai Properties, a division of Dubai Holding, has awarded the Atlanta-based architectural firm the project to design the landmark 51-story Vision Tower at Business Bay. The Vision Tower will be located at the main entrance of Business Bay, a development designed to serve as the new central business district of the Emirate. The design for the tower features a signature bent-glass facade made with transparent glazing that allows the “eternally lit” Vision Tower to be a beacon for Business Bay and a landmark for the region. The Tower's iconic design and key location will afford great visibility to the companies located within the 500,000 square feet of prime work space.

Known for their innovative, large mixed-used communities, TVS also designed the original vision for Business Bay, a new "city within the city" of Dubai, being constructed along a new extension of Dubai Creek. The 64-million square foot business district will feature 230 commercial and residential towers, including the Vision Tower. The development is designed to serve both multinational and small businesses and will include residential and commercial zones for those employers wishing to live and work in the same area. Business Bay is expected to attract more than $17 billion in direct investments to the area and will require between seven and 10 years to complete.

“Business Bay is designed to echo New York’s Manhattan and Tokyo’s Ginza—to be the premier business center in the Middle East,” says Behr Champana, Vice President, TVS International Division. “Business Bay is the largest project TVS has ever designed and we are pleased to help Dubai reach its vision in becoming a world-class commercial hub.”

Dubai is the second largest emirate in the United Arab Emirates after Abu Dhabi and is located on the Persian Gulf, southwest of Sharjah and northeast of Abu Dhabi. Business Bay is part of a master plan launched by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defense, to make the UAE a global business and commercial center. The UAE is one of the world's wealthiest countries and has the third-largest proven oil reserves in the world. While oil and gas production helped form its foundation, Dubai is unique to the region as the only emirate with an economy that does not rely on oil. Dubai's annual GDP growth of 6 percent and per-capita income of $26,000 has made it a popular relocation option for Western companies.

Since opening a Dubai office in December 2004 TVS has been involved in planning projects in Lebanon, Oman, Lybia, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, India and the United Arab Emirates.
