Organization Definitions

Following are several organizational definitions of terminology related to IFMA.

Workplace Industry:
People involved in the day-to-day facilitation, operation and management of the workplace. Those jobs revolving around ensuring functionality of the workplace (any location in which work is conducted) are included.

Facility:
An environment which is built, installed or established to serve a work-related purpose.

Facility Management:
Facility management is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology.

IFMA:
IFMA is the largest and most widely recognized professional association for facility management, supporting approximately 20,000 members. The Association's members are represented in 126 chapters, 16 councils and one Special Interest Group (SIG), in 78 countries worldwide.
